Hide and Seek: For Jeffery
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

I used to chase him around the garden
Young and free in our hide and seek world
Falling down into the dirt of the earth
The mudfights of my youth
Now I seek to find innosence once again
I connect by number the thoughts I'm afraid to remember
The dots I fear to join

Memories relive the time when swinging high in my garden
His little boot flew off
Hitting me between the eyes
A bruise I somehow feel once again
After the years have passed on

We saw each other every day
His smile somehow arched my smile
His laugh reached the heavens and spoke to the angels
That would somehow take him away

Day after day I wonder why the dance of his
Full of energy and sheer joy
Gave everyone a joy for life
Gave himself a name as the "Mony Mony" entertainer

Now blinded by the bruise I cannot bear
The pain from the eye of the tiger
Running off to the Westcoast for
The silver dollar that cannot buy back time

Touching the newspaper page as if reading braille
I read the news
It was an accident
The lines are coming together now
Drawing a picture of his life
Speaking good of him as he did of everyone

Before the day his helmet flew off
Hitting himself between his eyes
He met the angels; one of his own
Leaving us all here on this placid, cold winter day
Before we lowered him back to the dirt of the earth
I was innocent
He is forever hiding and I am forever seeking

In memory of Jeffery, I'll never forget you.
